Amazing Gut makes Ins&Outs, a TGA-cleared (ARTG #462026) smart medical device that brings anorectal biofeedback therapy — the gold-standard, first-line treatment for functional anorectal disorders — into the home. Embedded sensors and a connected app guide patients through a personalised retraining programme, while clinicians monitor progress remotely through a secure dashboard.
Conditions such as faecal incontinence, chronic constipation and chronic rectal pain affect around one in five adults, yet fewer than 1% of Australians access biofeedback because it has traditionally required repeated in-clinic sessions. A randomised controlled trial (PLOS ONE, 2024) showed self-guided therapy with Ins&Outs was non-inferior to nurse-led in-clinic biofeedback.
Developed at Western Sydney University and winner of the 2024 Good Design Award, Amazing Gut was awarded the Proto Axiom Challenger Prize at Challenger Pitch for Health 2026.
